Douglas Bobovnyik
Major
Major Douglas Bobovnyik, a native of Youngstown, graduated from Chaney High School before attending Youngstown State University. He is a United States Marine Corps veteran and a graduate of the Ohio State Highway Patrol Basic Academy in Columbus and the FBI Hazardous Devices School at Redstone Military Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama
Major Bobovnyik began his law enforcement career in 1986 as a patrolman with the Youngstown Police Department, where he dedicated 33 years of service across various divisions. In his early years, he was assigned to the Special Investigations Unit, focusing on narcotics, vice, and organized crime cases. In 1994, he was promoted to Detective/ Sergeant and joined the Youngstown Regional Bomb Squad in 1995, where he served as an FBI-Certified Public Safety Bomb Technician for nearly 25 years, and later became the Bomb Squad Commander. In 2010, he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and was assigned as Officer-in-Charge of Criminal Investigation. There he led the Youngstown Police Department's Detective Bureau, overseeing investigations into hundreds of homicides and other major crime cases until his retirement in 2019.
Major Bobovnyik has received multiple accolades, including the Youngstown Police Department’s Valor Award and the Investigation Excellence Award. In 2022, he joined the Ohio Department of Commerce as a Regional Manager in Agency Operations with the Ohio Division of Liquor Control. Additionally, he served as a police officer for the Village of Lowellville Police Department. In 2025, Major Bobovnyik accepted the position of Major of Operations with the Trumbull County Sheriff’s Department under Sheriff Michael G. Wilson.
