Sheriff of Trumbull County, Ohio

Sheriff Michael G. Wilson, a native of Youngstown, Ohio, has dedicated his life to serving his country, state, and community. A graduate of Cardinal Mooney High School and Youngstown State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Applied Science Criminal Justice, Sheriff Wilson’s career spans over three decades of law enforcement and military service.

In his early years, Sheriff Wilson enlisted in the U.S. Army and Ohio Army National Guard, serving eight years of active duty and National Guard time. As a Persian Gulf War veteran, he proudly served in Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm as a combat Military Police Team Leader. Once he returned, he knew that law enforcement and service to his country, state, and community was his passion.

Sheriff Wilson has spent over 31 years in law enforcement, starting his professional career with the Ohio State Highway Patrol in 1992. Throughout his tenure, he has held numerous positions, including Assistant Post Commander, Investigator in the Vehicle Theft and Fraud Unit, and Firearms Instructor. A recognized expert in auto larceny, Sheriff Wilson has earned multiple awards for his work, including the ACE Award and Certificates of Recognition for lifesaving efforts. He is also certified in Critical Incident Management, Technical Crash Investigation, and Leadership/Supervisory Skills, among others.

Sheriff Wilson is deeply committed to community involvement. He served as Vice-Chairman of the Hartford Township Zoning Commission and was elected by his fellow residents as Hartford Township Trustee in 2021. Additionally, he is a graduate of the Ohio Township Association Leadership Academy. Sheriff Wilson is an active member of the Youngstown Air Reserve Base Community Council and a board member of the Northeast Ohio Big Deer Contest, a children’s event. He has also volunteered for organizations such as Relay for Life, the Warren Family Mission, and Second Harvest Food Bank.

With a vision focused on providing proactive, effective responses to crime and the opioid epidemic in Trumbull County, Sheriff Wilson’s leadership reflects his belief that making a positive difference starts with being capable to lead change. As Sheriff of Trumbull County, he is committed to making decisions that ensure the safety and well-being of both his team and the community.

Sheriff Wilson has lived an honorable life of selfless service, and with enthusiasm, he continues his mission to serve the residents of Trumbull County with integrity and dedication.
