Ernest Cook started his career as a graduate of the Southeast Florida Institute of Criminal Justice serving with the Miami Beach Police Department. In 1975 he became Chief of Police of Brookfield Township Police Department making him one of the youngest police chiefs in the nation at age 25. After a distinguished career with British Petroleum, he was appointed Police Chief in Vienna Township where he successfully implemented the contract for the Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport in accordance with FAA standards. He has also served as Bailiff for the Trumbull County Eastern District Court.

Chief Ernest G. Cook also holds a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice from Youngstown State University and a Master's in Business Administration from Baldwin Wallace College. In addition, his certifications and training include credentials from the following agencies: Ohio Peace Officers Training Academy School Commander, Instructor; Federal Bureau of Investigation; Federal Aviation Administration; Federal Emergency Management Agency; Ohio Bureau of Investigation; Youngstown State University; National Rifle Association Firearms Instructor; and the Pennsylvania Bureau of Drug Control. The Ohio Chief's of Police Association has certified Chief Cook as a Certified Law Enforcement Executive.
